Holiday Eating

Everyone is getting into gear for the Holidays, and you know what that means...lots of food. Lots of drink. Lots of food and drink.

Yesterday we had a lasagna cook off in the office, and I had two types of salad, FIVE different kinds of lasagna, garlic bread, and Tiramisu. Needless to say, I had a major food coma afterward and all I wanted to do was crawl under my desk and sleep.

For those times that you overindulge, here are my remedies:

1. Green tea. I basically sip on green tea all day at work anyway, but it does make my stomach feel better after I've eaten enough for two or three people.
2. Take a walk! Even if you just go around the block or around the office, get up and move around for five minutes. Yesterday I took a 10 minute walk outside and got some fresh air, and I felt a lot better afterward.

Now, if you want more preventative measures to overeating, you can read countless tips in magazines and on the web, but the #1 thing is willpower. You just have to tell yourself to stop. Are you eating just to eat? Or are you really hungry? You don't have to cut a huge piece of cake to know what it tastes like.

Next week I am heading to South Carolina for Thanksgiving. The temperatures are supposed to be in the 60s so I will take advantage of running outside in just a t-shirt and shorts! The main road that goes around the island is 6.4 miles which might be a good Thanksgiving morning run. I plan to play golf and tennis too! Eating isn't the sole activity you can enjoy with your family and extended family during the Holiday season.

Have a great weekend.

  1. Great tips! I indulged a little too much on Sunday and took my dog for a 45 minute walk and felt much better :) Hope you have a great holiday!
