Green Monsters

A loyal friend and reader (you know who you are!) asked me for the Green Monster recipe. When I refer to drinking Green Monsters, it's a protein shake, but it's not just an ordinary shake! The green color comes from spinach leaves, yes spinach!

Standard Green Monster recipe:

Combine 2/3 cup milk, 1 whole banana, about 8-10 ice cubes (standard size) and about 2 cups of loosely packed spinach into a blender. Blend until smooth, and then drink! You don't taste the spinach, you just taste the banana.

Now, if you want to mix it up, you can use berries instead of a banana, add protein powder, add peanut butter, etc.

MY go-to Green Monster recipe:

2/3 cup milk
1 whole banana
ice
2 cups loosely packed spinach
1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
1 scoop (about 1 tsp) of wheatgrass powder

The whey protein helps with workout recovery, and the wheatgrass powder has a lot of nutritional benefits and helps boost your immune system. Because of the chocolate powder, my Green Monsters are a greenish brown, which isn't the prettiest thing to look at, but it tastes great.

Tip: the order in which you add ingredients does matter. If you put in your powder(s) last, they fly to the top of the blender and don't mix properly. If you put them in the bottom, they usually go into the crevices and then they wash down the sink when you rinse out your blender. If you use powder(s), put in the spinach FIRST, then the powder, then milk, then banana, then ice. The banana helps hold down the spinach.

Enjoy!

  1. Get the ONLY wheatgrass powder that has the roots and the blades. Why? You get more nutrients and a better taste. In fact the taste is so bland that you can drink it in water. Get your FREE sample at bestorganicwheatgrass.com
